Usability can encompass making things usable for a wider population, such as making a handle smaller, so both children and adults are able to operate it. It also includes making a system or a man-machine-system to do more things. Usability is simply a methodological (i.e. science, engineering, design, etc.) process of improving the use of an item or system. Usability focuses on the interaction between the human and the use, and looks to make it better.

Ergonomics can focus on general human behaviour in relation to technology (such as studies of how people react to various type of colours and sizes), on a generic type of product (such as laptops), on specific environments or product designs as a whole, or on some specific design aspects of a particular environment or product.

The Process of an individual assessment:

• A consultant will come to the client's office to conduct the assessment at the employees' workstation.
• An individual office assessment takes between 30 to 60 minutes.
• During the assessment, a task analysis and a workstation lay-out assessment are conducted.
• During the assessment, employee behavioural patterns are analysed.
• An employee instruction is provided and the workstation is adapted, where possible.
• An easy to understand feedback report will be returned to the employer (and employee) stating recommendations and equipment supplier sources.
